Wool Fibres & Textures

Auskin Wool Fibre & Texture Options

Auskin woolskin products are crafted from skins selected for their natural properties and texture to suit product requirements

Auskin Group offers a range of woolskin texture and fibre options that capture the natural characteristics of wool ‘the miracle fibre’. People around the world are coming to realise and appreciate the unique properties of natural wool. Auskin looks to preserve these properties in their natural form, attached to the leather it grew on.

Auskin sheep & lambskin wool finishes provide a tactile appeal and a natural softness that cannot be matched by synthetic materials.

Long wool

Featuring unshorn wool in a variety of lengths from 45mm to 70mm+, Auskin long wool sheepskin products come in a range of finishes from a more open ‘country style’ wool type to very dense wool types typically found in Auskin urban ranges and designer products.

Products: classic sheepskin rugs, sheepskin bean bags, cushions & accessories, and woolskin bedding.

Shorn Lamb / Shearling

Auskin Shearling or shorn lambskin is available in a number of forms and specifications to meet specific customer requirements. The unique quality of the material means it is suitable for using in a broad range of end uses. From interior products, such as designer rugs, through to more industrial uses such as polishing material for the vehicle and tech industries. And shorn lambskin is also available as “twin face” for manufacturing “Ugg” boots and other footwear.

What is “twinface”? Twin face material is finished on both sides. The wool side of the pelt is typically shorn to a specific wool length and dyed in a range of colours. The reverse side is also finished in a fine polished or suede leather.

Shearling is a sheepskin or lambskin pelt that has gone through a limited shearing process to obtain a uniform depth of the wool fibers for a uniform look and feel.  The term Shearling refers to the pelt of a yearling sheep that has been shorn, and contrary to the popular misconception, is not a specific reference to shorn wool.

Shearling material produced for garments or footwear is made by tanning the shorn pelts of a yearling sheep and shearing the wool to provide a uniform depth.

Products: sheepskin footwear, designer rugs and shearling & sheepskin manufacturing materials.

Curly Wool

Wool is naturally curly. Auskin curly wool products celebrate and preserve the unique characteristics of wool in its most-natural curly state. Curly wool finishes and textures are offered in a range of wool lengths from a ‘short & curly’ 8mm to a ‘long & shaggy’ 70mm+.

Products: curly wool collection, Wanaka Living, sheepskin cushions and sheepskin bean bags.

The textural options offered by Auskin lamb & woolskin provide consumers and manufacturers with a range and quality of natural character that cannot be matched by man-made fibres.
